Misty Flores, Assistant Curator, Rienzi, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

Misty Flores is the Assistant Curator at Rienzi, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s house museum for European decorative arts.  A native of Houston, Texas, she earned her B.A. in Art History and History from the University of Houston and her M.A. in Decorative Arts and Historic Interiors from the University of Buckingham, in partnership with The Wallace Collection in London.  She has curated numerous exhibitions, including Hidden Hands:  Invisible Workers in Industrial England, which examined the uncredited roles of women and children in the craft trades in England during the 18th and 19th centuries, and Material of Empire:  Colonial Narratives, which explored the stories objects reveal and conceal within the complex and intertwined legacies of empire.  Before joining the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, she worked as a Documentation Assistant with English Heritage in London, where she collaborated on projects with the Kenwood, Chiswick, and Apsley House Collections.  She serves as a chair member of the French Porcelain Society’s Emerging Scholars group and is co-chair of the newsletter committee of the American Ceramic Circle.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston recently hosted the “Crowning the North; Silver Treasures from Bergen, Norway” exhibition, which ran from February 11 to May 5, 2024.
